'We will see' - Klopp hopeful over Salah fitness for Champions League

The Liverpool manager indicated there is confidence over the winger's health for the second-leg with Manchester City, but offered no guarantees

Jurgen Klopp remains hopeful that star man Mohamed Salah will return for Liverpool's Champions League quarter-final second leg with Manchester City on Tuesday.

Salah limped out of the first leg against City after 52 minutes, the Egypt international having set the Reds on their way to a stunning 3-0 victory at Anfield.

A groin problem forced the 25-year-old's early exit and the 38-goal talisman was not risked for Saturday's Merseyside derby with Everton in the Premier League.

"We didn't think about [playing] him, why should I?" said Klopp after the goalless draw.

"I don't get a ticker every five minutes of how he feels."

But the German confirmed there is a hope within the club that he will be cleared to return against City.

"That's what everybody thinks, but we will see," added Klopp.

The manager also said he was fine with the scoreless draw against Everton, noting that both teams had chances, and everything went as he expected.

Injuries and the second leg with City forced Klopp to field a heavily rotated side that controlled the play for around 70 minutes, only to have to withstand a late Everton flurry to escape with the point.

The final 20 minutes saw things Klopp did not like, but that did not dampen his overall feelings toward the result.

"Absolutely [I am happy with the result]," he told Sky Sports . "We controlled the game for around 60-70 minutes, then everything got a bit emotional, but that is normal, I would have expected that.

"In those times we have to control the game, but we didn't. We need to play and that's what we didn't do, and that's why we came under pressure.

"[But] that's completely normal, until then it was not the game the people wanted, but that was not our job to do that, it's not our 1A solution but our 1B and we take that."

He added: "We had the two biggest chances of the first half, and then at the end there were two or three crosses that were close, so I am completely fine with the result.

"[It's a] very important result so let's carry on, another point away, not long to drive home, so now we prepare for the next game [the second leg against City]."
