Senate President Saraki says that some senators are already angry with President Buhari over approval of $1billion for the purchase of arms

Senate President Bukola Saraki on Saturday revealed that some senators are angry over President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to consult the senate before making public his administration’s plan to spend $1billion on arms purchase.

“Just few days ago, the issue of providing funding for the purchase of security equipment was in the news. In a good environment, such an issue needed to have been discussed with lawmakers,” Mr Saraki said at a retreat for lawmakers in Jos Saturday.

“Already, some senators are angry,” he added

“They said they were not consulted by the executive before such a decision was taken,” Mr Saraki said according to The Nation (As seen on Premium Times).

“Some people have already taken position because they were not consulted. That is why I stressed the issue of collaboration between the two arms. The issue of engagement is important.”

Buhari had in December 2017 requested for approval from the National Assembly to withdraw $1billion from the Excess Crude Oil account to fight the Boko Haram insurgent and other insecurities around the nation.

A move which was vehemently rejected by the opposition especially Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State who noted that, ‘all states has its own specific insecurity,’ adding that his own state, Ekiti, is facing hunger harm.
