one player that is more creative than Mesut Ozil in the Europa League this season

Mesut Ozil may have notched two assists in Arsenal‘s 4-1 win over CSKA Moscow in the Europa League on Thursday evening, but Sergio Canales still remains the most creative player in this year’s competition.

The German international set up Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette’s goals to take his total number of assists in the Europa League to four in three games, and will be looking to add in the return leg away at Moscow.

The Gunners are in a good position to make steady headway in a competition they must win if they want to play in the Champions League next season, as they sit 13 points adrift of a top-four spot in the league.

When looking at players to have played at least 180 minutes in the competition, Canales, however, bests Ozil’s haul, having created 4.5 chances per 90 minutes – the German has created 4.2 per 90.

The Real Sociedad midfielder also tops the chances created rankings when looking at the total. His 28 in the competition is 12 more than Ozil’s 16, although the Arsenal playmaker did not play a single group stage game.

Canales also has the most number of assists in the competition (6) despite crashing out with current side Sociedad in the Round of 32 to RB Salzburg.

Marseille’s Dimitri Payet is just below Ozil, having created 4.1 chances per 90 – though was unable to turn provider as the Ligue 1 side lost 1-0 RB Leipzig.
